ACRO/JAZZ COMBO

This class is a combination of the dance styles acro and jazz (see below). The kids have a chance to try out both styles before branching off in their dance training. They will also have the chance to play dance related games!

ACRO (ACROBATICS)

Ages 5 +

AcroDance is a style of Acrobatics used specifically for dancers. It is a genre of dance which seamlessly fuses elements of lyrical gymnastics tricks, balancing, tumbling, and jazz. Students learn Acrobatic tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, chest stands, elbow stands, walkovers, side and front aerials and tumbling lines. Trick movements are usually executed slowly to emphasize gracefulness, body lines and picturesque extension. AcroDance offers more depth and variety to  choreography and creates a much more versatile dancer. To master an AcroDance trick, students must develop a good foundation of strength and flexibility, thus emphasis is placed on extensive conditioning and stretch and strength training. When students are learning new tricks, the instructor utilizes professional spotting techniques; which is necessary to ensure safety and build confidence.

STUNTING

Ages 8 +

This class focuses on stunts, lifts, acrobatics, with emphasis on partnering and group work.

Stunting consists of one person acting as a flier and another as a porter. The porter remains in contact with the floor and the flier is balanced in the air. The porter may move between a variety of positions including lying on the floor, crouching, standing, and kneeling. The flier may be balanced on the porter’s feet, hands, shoulders, knees, thighs, back, or combinations of these, in a variety of positions and orientations including horizontal, vertical, or even upside down.

AERIAL HOOP

JAZZ

Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity on television shows, movies, music videos, and commercials. People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic. Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way. This type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.

CONTEMPORARY

Ages 8 +
Adult Program

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

LYRICAL

Ages 8 +
Adult Program

Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz dance techniques and is a "cousin" to those styles.  Lyrical dancing is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song. Because lyrical dancing focuses on the expression of strong emotion, the style concentrates more on individual approach and expressiveness than the precision of the dancer's movements.

TAP

Ages 5 +
Adult Program

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses on dance; it is widely performed in musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses on musicality  and practitioners consider themselves to be a part of the jazz tradition.

The sound is made by shoes that have a metal "tap" on the heel and toe. There are different brands of shoes which sometimes differ in the way they sound.
